In December United Airlines announced the largest order of wide-body aircraft by a U.S. airline in commercial aviation history. This order is for 100 of Boeing’s 787 Dreamliner jets with on option for 100 additional aircraft. These 787 will replace the old 767’s in United Airlines fleet. These 787’s will carry between 219 and 318 passengers and United Airlines plans to expand its long-haul routes. United expects to begin taking delivery of the 100 aircraft between 2024 and 2032.
This order comes after Boeing resumed their 787 deliveries after the FAA stopped certifying the planes for over a year after discovering production problems. These production problems included manufacturing flaws of unacceptable gaps between fuselage panels. The FAA approved Boeing’s revised plan of its quality control and production processes.
