On October 3, 2024, a Ryanair flight (FR8826) from Brindisi to Turin experienced an engine fire just before takeoff, forcing the evacuation of all 184 passengers. The incident occurred as the Boeing 737-800, operated by Ryanair, began its takeoff roll. Flames were seen coming from the aircraft’s right engine, prompting the crew to initiate an emergency evacuation using inflatable slides.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported, and all passengers, including a newborn, were safely evacuated. The Brindisi airport was temporarily closed for a few hours while emergency services extinguished the fire and conducted investigations. After a five-hour delay, the passengers were transferred to their destination on a replacement aircraft .
