Airbus has announced that Lars Wagner, currently the CEO of MTU Aero Engines, will become the new head of Airbus Commercial Aircraft beginning January 1, 2026. Wagner, aged 50, brings extensive experience from his tenure at MTU and earlier roles within Airbus in Bremen, Hamburg, and Toulouse.
To ensure a smooth transition, Wagner will join Airbus in November 2025 and succeed Christian Scherer, who is expected to conclude his leadership of the commercial aircraft business by the end of the year.
This leadership change highlights Airbus’s commitment to maintaining strong industrial expertise at the top. Wagner’s deep knowledge of engine and OEM operations, combined with his MBA and engineering background, positions him well to guide Airbus through ongoing supply-chain challenges and production scale-up efforts as the company prepares to meet ambitious delivery targets.
