On September 16, 2025, SWISS flight LX55 from Boston (BOS) to Zurich (ZRH) rejected its takeoff at about 6:25 p.m., after an engine issue triggered during the roll. Video captured from the terminal area shows flames shooting from the right engine as the widebody accelerated; the crew stopped on the runway, then taxied off under its own power. No injuries were reported.
The FAA said it briefly paused some arrivals and will investigate the event. Massport, which runs Logan, described a reported “loud noise,” adding that nothing was found in an initial check. Local outlets reported a temporary ground stop while emergency crews inspected the aircraft and the surface.
Passengers were later re-accommodated, with one telling NBC10 Boston the replacement departure left about five hours late. FAA notes the aircraft was briefly disabled on Runway 22R during the response. The inquiry will focus on whether the visible flames were consistent with a compressor stall/surge or another transient engine malfunction.
