ANA A380 ‘Flying Honu’ Hits Cargo Trailer

On September 15, 2025, All Nippon Airways flight NH181 from Honolulu to Tokyo–Narita, operated by Airbus A380 JA381A in the blue “Flying Honu Lani” livery, was involved in a ground collision while taxiing at Daniel K. Inouye International Airport (HNL). Spotter reports from the field indicate the A380 struck a runaway cargo container and trailer on the taxiway, with photos showing damage on the starboard side, and later updates pointing to contact with the No. 4 engine/cowling. No injuries were reported among the roughly 498 people on board. The aircraft returned to the gate area and was later towed to the ‘Ewa Ramp for inspection and repairs.

Social and spotter channels tracking the event said the container appeared to be affiliated with a cargo handler. They emphasized that the NTSB was not expected to open an investigation given the absence of injuries. ANA arranged onward travel for passengers; subsequent NH181 rotations were flown by other A380s in the fleet, according to flight-tracking data. As of the latest spotter updates, JA381A remained grounded at HNL pending repairs.
