Azur Air 767 Turns Back

Azur Air Boeing 767-3Y0ER, RA-73079, operating charter flight ZF-2620 from Phu Quoc, Vietnam (PQC/VVPQ) to Kazan, Russia (KZN/UWKD), returned to its departure airport shortly after takeoff on 27 February 2026, following reports of abnormal engine behavior during the initial climb.

Russian media, citing passenger accounts and Telegram channels, said travelers heard multiple loud bangs and observed bright flashes/flame from the left engine, consistent with an engine surge/compressor stall scenario.

Azur Air’s press service told RBC the aircraft returned due to a technical reason, that the landing was normal, and that the crew did not declare an emergency or transmit a distress signal, while “fully controlling flight parameters.” The airline said specialists began an inspection after landing and would decide on the flight’s continuation after the technical assessment, with airline representatives handling passengers.

Additional unverified reporting claimed the aircraft orbited for roughly 50 minutes before landing back at Phu Quoc, and the landing-gear wheels showed visible damage/smoke after rollout; the airline statement did not confirm these details.
