An IndiGo Airbus A321neo was evacuated at Chandigarh Airport after a passenger’s power bank reportedly caught fire following a flight from Hyderabad.
The aircraft, operating flight 6E108, had landed and was taxiing to the bay when the personal electronic device caught fire, filling part of the cabin with smoke. Cabin crew used fire extinguishers to control the situation before emergency slides were deployed and passengers were evacuated.
According to local reports, around 200 passengers were on board. Several passengers were reported to have sustained minor injuries during the evacuation, although India’s aviation regulator, the DGCA, said no major injuries had been reported.
IndiGo said all passengers were moved safely to the terminal and that the aircraft would undergo the required checks before returning to service. The incident has renewed attention on the risks posed by lithium battery-powered devices such as power banks, which are subject to strict carriage and usage rules on commercial flights.
