Boeing’s first 777-8 Freighter has made its first public appearance at the company’s Everett production facility, marking a visible milestone for the cargo version of the 777X program.
The aircraft briefly emerged from the Everett factory on April 23 as it was moved between buildings for the next stage of work. According to Aviation Week, the freighter is now heading toward completion, including engine installation and systems testing.
The 777-8F is Boeing’s next-generation large freighter and is designed to combine the payload capability of the current 777F with newer 777X technology, including composite wings, folding wingtips and GE9X engines. The program was launched in 2022 with Qatar Airways as the launch customer.
For Boeing, the rollout is important because it shows physical progress on a program closely linked to the future of its widebody cargo lineup. The 777-8F is expected to play a central role as airlines and cargo operators plan replacements for older large freighters amid stricter emissions rules and growing demand for more efficient long-haul cargo aircraft.
Before entering service, the first aircraft must still complete engine installation, ground testing, flight testing, and certification. Qatar Airways is expected to become the first operator, with other cargo customers also waiting for the new freighter as Boeing advances the wider 777X family.
