Ryanair has announced it will close its Berlin Brandenburg base from October 2026, marking a major reduction in its operations at the German capital’s main airport.
The low-cost carrier said it will relocate seven aircraft, cut 10 routes, and reduce its overall traffic at Berlin Brandenburg by around 50%. Ryanair cited rising airport costs as the main reason for the decision, arguing that higher charges are making the airport less competitive for low-fare operations.
The move is expected to reduce Ryanair’s presence in Berlin significantly and could affect both passenger choice and airport connectivity. The airline has frequently warned that higher airport fees can lead to capacity cuts, aircraft redeployments, and route closures.
For Berlin Brandenburg, the decision represents a notable setback as the airport continues working to strengthen its post-pandemic traffic recovery and expand low-cost airline activity.
